Subhabrata Sengupta, Partner at Avalon Consulting, shared his views on the E20 ethanol blending debate on Times Now’s Nation Wants To Know, hosted by Shreya Dhoundial.
He highlighted that while India’s ethanol blending programme has strategic merit, it should not be imposed on consumers without giving them the freedom to choose — vehicle owners deserve the option of pure petrol (E0) alongside E20 at the pump.
He noted that any fuel with a higher ethanol content must be sold as a clearly labelled, distinct grade, and that the legitimate concerns around the rollout — from vehicle compatibility to consumer awareness — cannot be brushed aside in the rush to meet blending targets.
